THIS TRUCK CRASHED INTO THIS VACANT STORE FRONT HERE ON GRATTAN STREET. I JUST CONFIRMED WITH CHICOPEE POLICE THAT TWO PEOPLE WERE HURT. OFFICER MIKE WILK TOLD 22NEWS A PICK UP TRUCK WAS DRIVING DOWN GRATTAN, SWERVED, HIT A PARKED CAR, AND THEN CRASHED INTO STORE, WHICH WE JUST CONFIRMED IS VACANT. TWO PEOPLE IN THAT TRUCK WERE HURT, BUT ARE EXPECTED TO BE OKAY. THERE WAS NO ONE INSIDE THAT OLD STORE, OR PARKED CAR AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. OFFICER WILK SAID THE CITY’S BUILDING DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN CALLED IN TO INSPECT THE STRUCTURE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, POLICE HAVE BLOCKED OFF GRATTAN STREET, FROM DICKINSON STREET TO TRILBY AVENUE. OFFICER WILK SAID THE DRIVER WAS ARRESTED, CHARGED WITH OPERATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. BUT THEY HAVEN’T RELEASED THE DRIVER’S NAME. 22NEWS IS FOLLOWING THIS STORY.
